La cave du Père Magott

Opened in late 2024 at 45 Grande Rue, La cave du Père Magott is a friendly wine bar in Nancy's Old Town. Selected wines, homemade boards and local produce: the ideal spot for a long apéritif or a light dinner with friends during your stay.

A wine bar in the heart of the Old Town

Located at 45 Grande Rue, right in the historic part of Nancy, La cave du Père Magott opened its doors in late 2024. The place plays the conviviality card: two floors, around sixty seats and an atmosphere halfway between a wine bar and a bistro. You stop by just as readily for an after-work glass as for a long, light dinner. Its setting on one of the finest streets of the old town makes it an easy stop between Place Stanislas and Place Saint-Épvre.

Wines, boards and quality produce

The house relies on carefully chosen wines, to be paired with homemade tapas, charcuterie boards, cheeses and seasonal fruit. The owner insists on quality raw ingredients: cheese from a nearby cheesemonger, bread from a neighbourhood baker, pâtés made from French meat and no frozen products. That stance is felt on the plate, generous and honest. It is a good way to taste local produce without committing to a full gastronomic meal.

The story of Père Magott

Behind the name is Pierre Magott, a Nancy man passionate about food, originally from the Périgord. Before returning to his city, he spent about ten years in the dining room and the kitchen of restaurants in Saint-Tropez, Paris, Bordeaux and Ajaccio. That experience feeds his vision of a simple yet demanding place, where you take time to drink and eat well. La cave du Père Magott is his first establishment under his own name, and that shows in the attention paid to every detail.

Going there during your stay

The wine bar lends itself especially well to a relaxed evening in Nancy, alone, as a couple or in a small group. You can build your meal from the boards, ideal when everyone has a different appetite. From accommodation in the centre, the address is reachable on foot through the lanes of the old town. It is best to book at weekends, as both floors fill up quickly in the evening. Do ask for advice on pairing the wines on offer with the boards of the day.
