Degrés Est: Aurélie Jouanen at Frac Lorraine
Happening now
Frac Lorraine's Degrés Est space, dedicated to artists connected to the Grand Est region, welcomes Aurélie Jouanen following a proposal by Bérénice Saliou, director of the Frac Champagne-Ardenne. A 2022 graduate of the École Boulle and the Beaux-Arts de Reims, the artist probes power dynamics and social violence through painting, performance, installation and publishing. In Metz she presents a series of paintings devoted to the gestures of security officers. By bringing these usually overlooked figures onto the canvas, she takes hold of a medium long associated with power to question the ambivalence of the cultural world: at once a tool of domination and a possible space for emancipation.
