Hôtel de Burtaigne

Hôtel de Burtaigne

A patrician Renaissance residence, the Hôtel de Burtaigne was raised in the early 16th century by the de Gournay family, one of the paraiges, in the final years of the Messine Republic. The medieval legacy still shows through: a low, diamond-shaped roof set back from the façade, and small dormer windows on the attic floor. Its architecture nonetheless moves away from the Italian model to follow the French Renaissance. It has been listed as a Historic Monument since 2006.

Between the Middle Ages and the French Renaissance

A low, set-back diamond roof and small dormers betray the medieval legacy, but the whole follows the French Renaissance rather than the Italian model. To be seen from the street.
