Place de la Comédie

Place de la Comédie

An elegant classical square laid out between 1738 and 1752, Place de la Comédie is arranged around the Opéra-Théâtre, the oldest opera house still in use in France. Beside it stands the Temple Neuf, a neo-Romanesque Rhenish Protestant church built from 1901 to 1904 by the architect Wahn, on the site of the former Jardin d'Amour and inspired by Speyer Cathedral. In the evening, its illuminated apse is mirrored in the Moselle, a particularly romantic sight.
