Modulab

Set on rue Mazelle, Modulab is a two-in-one venue: a contemporary art gallery and an etching workshop under the same roof. Created in 2011 by the MYART association, it hosts emerging artists and collectives, French and foreign, around drawing, installation, printmaking and the multiple. A lively place where you can watch both exhibitions and images being made.

A gallery born of a nonprofit

Modulab opened in March 2011 on the initiative of the MYART association. The gallery set its course on emerging contemporary art: it invites artists and collectives, French and foreign, whose work questions drawing, installation and the multiple. The programme is renewed through the year, between solo shows and collective projects, in the spirit of a springboard for young names.

Printmaking at the heart of the project

Modulab's distinctive feature is to combine a gallery with an etching workshop. It doesn't just exhibit works: it produces prints, editions and printed images, and workshops let you get to grips with printmaking techniques. This double life gives the place the feel of a living studio, where making the image matters as much as showing it, bringing visitors, artists and craft closer together.

Practical info and access

Modulab is on rue Mazelle, in a lively district near Metz's historic centre, within walking distance of the main sights. The gallery opens mainly at the end of the week and by appointment. As shows follow one another, check the current programme on modulab.fr or call ahead before you set off, so you catch a hanging rather than a closed door between two installations.
