At the Source of Raï
In 12 days
After Constantine, violinist Théo Ceccaldi continues to explore his family roots alongside Sofiane Saidi, a singer-songwriter from Sidi Bel Abbès, the birthplace of Algerian raï. Together they trace the story of the first Arab musical movement to cross borders, from Bedouin and Gnawa music to pop, rock, reggae and electronic colours. Carried by a large-scale orchestra, the concert celebrates cultural fusion and a resolutely hybrid energy. Meet at Metz's Arsenal for a world-music evening.
A journey to the roots of raï
Théo Ceccaldi and Sofiane Saidi trace the evolution of raï, from the influence of Bedouin music and West Africa's Gnawa to Egyptian musicals and Moroccan chaabi, all the way to pop, rock, reggae and electronic sounds.
